Compatible Controllers

Overview

There is a wide variety of smartphone controllers available on the market. However, Android and iOS do not share a common standardized input control protocol. The Blueye App supports the industry-standard gamepad protocol for both iOS (MFi) and Android (HID), so in case you want a different controller or need a spare controller, any of the following controllers listed below have been tested and is known to work.

In 2022 we released the Blueye Rugged Controller bundle, which combines a waterproof controller with a Samsung Galaxy Tab Active3 tablet.

Keep in mind that some controllers do not include a phone holder, and others are designed to fit around the device itself, which can interfere with phone casings and other accessories. Some manufacturers do claim both iOS and Android support, but this is usually only via a propitiatory app made to play certain games. A rule of thumb is that most Android controllers will work, while only MFI-certified controllers will work with iOS. The list will be updated periodically, and if you have experience with a controller that is not listed, please let us know.

Starting with iOS 13, Apple added support for Sony PS4 Dualshock 4 and Microsoft Xbox One S controllers, making these the first two controllers officially supported on both Android and iOS.

In iOS 14.5, support was extended to Microsoft Xbox Series X and Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 controllers.
