You can record videos and capture still pictures and screenshots using the touch interface or a physical controller.
Picture and screenshot functionality requires version 1.4 of the Blueye drones Software and version 1.8 of the Blueye App for iOS or Android.
Record video
You start a video recording by tapping the camera icon or pressing the X-button on your controller. While recording a red record symbol will flash, and a timer will indicate the length of your recording. Tap the camera icon or press the X-button again to end your recording.
Capture still pictures
You can capture still pictures by pressing and holding the L1 or R1 shoulder buttons and the X-button. When pressing the L1 or R1 button, the icon of the camera button will change from a film camera to a photo camera.
Press and hold R1 or L1 to take a still picture or screenshot. Observe how the icon changes.
If you do not have a physical controller connected, and use the app in touch mode, a dedicated touch button for still pictures is added next to the normal video recording button.
Camera settings
Open the menu by tapping the button in the upper right corner of the screen. Select the Camera menu item to change settings.
Auto setting
By default, the camera is set to use automatic exposure and automatic white balance. This will work well in most situations. Toggle the switch to enable manual exposure or manual white balance.
Exposure settings can be set using the slider, or the Up/Down buttons on the directional pad (D-pad) on your controller.
Bitrate
The bitrate setting lets you choose which video bitrate to use for the live stream and video recording. A lower number gives a smaller file size and a more robust live stream. It is hard to give an absolute recommendation as Wi-Fi conditions and devices can differ. If you experience stuttering or artifacts in the live stream, try lowering the bitrate.
Picture Mode
You can choose to capture still pictures on the Drone, as a Screenshot on your device, or both.
Transfer media files
You can transfer your video recordings or still pictures using the Blueye App on your mobile device, or the File Transfer App on your PC or macOS computer. Screenshots are stored directly on your device. Read how to transfer video files.
