Introduction
The Blueye GPS can either be purchased as a stand alone unit, or combined with a DVL on the same guest port connector. The installation guide covers how to install it when used together with a DVL. The process for the GPS only is the same, except for the DVL specific steps.
How to install
All guest ports can be used for the Blueye GPS, although we recommend using GP1 if available.
WARNING: Always power off the ROV before connecting or disconnecting external equipment to prevent damage, also when using the Quick Connect.
Drone preparation
1. Remove battery cover, side covers and buoyancy. See the Help Center video fro changing the tether for detailed instructions on this step.
2. Remove blind plug from selected guest port.
3. Install self adhesive cable guides in the indicated area in the photo below. For best result clean the area with alcohol prior to attaching the cable guides.
4. Remove front cover for optimal cable routing. This is required for installing a GPS + DVL combo, and optional when installing GPS only.
5. Pull the aluminum assembly forward to create a gap between the aluminum and the side thruster.
6. Mount the GPS front-mount to the aluminum backbone.
Do not over tighten the screws. Use light finger force, less than 0.5 Nm.
7. Install the steel skid to the DVL mounting bracket if installing a GPS + DVL combo.
8. Remove the ballast weights at the bottom of the drone to make place for the DVL if applicable.
9. Slide the DVL in place with the cable facing forward.
10. Install the guest port connector and ensure the o-rings are clean and not dried out. Apply a small amount of Molykote 55 if necessary. The connector comes pre greased from Blueye.
Do not over tighten the screw Use light finger force, less than 0.5 Nm.
11. Guide the cables down between the aluminium backbone and the side thruster. Push the aluminum assembly back into place and re-install the front-cover.
12. Push access DVL cable on top of the battery aluminum tube.
13. Attach the both cables to the top cable mount with a zip tie, and route the GPS cable down and back up to the second cable mount, as shown in the picture.
14. Re-attach buoyancy and the right side cover.
15. Pull the GPS antenna cable up through the front hole of the side cover as shown in the picture.
16. Attach the right side cover. Make sure the DVL cable is routed through the opening at the bottom.
17. Re-install the side cover screws and the battery cover.
18. Install the GPS receiver by sliding it into the front opening, and pushing it back into the snap lock. It should lock firmly in place when pushed down.
Transportation
When transporting the Blueye X3 inside an aluminum transportation case with the GPS installed, you need to unsnap it from the top mount as shown in the picture. If you have a GPS + DVL combo, you also need to remove the steel skid.
If your foam inset does not have this space cut out, you may need to modify it using a sharp knife.
